Right now, we live in interesting times.
As the old Chinese curse goes, ‘may you live in interesting times’. We certainly are going through an era right now I’m sure will be often analysed and discussed by future historians.
The best way I can describe this is a 5th generation war- a war for the hearts and minds of people. We are being bombarded by all kinds of contradictory information which causes anxiety and paranoia, some of it from sources that are supposedly ‘trustworthy’.
There are two methods of dealing with this:
1. Minimising your time exposed to media and news outlets
Since the major source of anxiety comes from social media and news outlets, minimising your exposure will go a long way to gaining your sanity back.
2. Implementing a critical thinking mindset
It won’t be practical to completely cut yourself off from the world, nor would most people want to in the first place. The alternative is adopting critical thinking mindset. This is easier said than done, as people who have been ‘brainwashed’ cannot tell this has happened. It takes consistent practice to adopt this objective approach.
Below is a video going through how you can implement this:
Analysis of Competing Hypotheses
I will have more to say on this in the future, but for how I hope you have a listen to that video and start implementing the techniques in everyday life.
I would encourage you to perform analysis on a piece of news you hear or read every few days to you get familiar with what to look for.
Until next time.
